Field Report: Kg Madsiang, Penampang

Flash flood relief & the quiet work behind every purchase

On 18th September 2025, the Renaissance Fund Impact team visited the temporary flood relief centre at Kg Madsiang, Penampang. After a series of flash floods, dozens of families were moved into a community hall that now holds rows of emergency tents, shared kitchens and borrowed mattresses.

Renaissance exists for moments like this: when life strips everything down to the essentials and “help” must look like shelter, warm food and human presence.

What we witnessed

Inside the hall, every tent hid a different story:

  • Mothers who watched the water rise faster than they could pack.
  • Children learning to sleep under zinc roofs, trying to turn the hall into a home.
  • Expectant mothers, some in their third trimester, counting down the weeks in someone else’s space.

The air felt heavy but disciplined. People were tired, yet they organised themselves, helped each other queue for aid, and tried to keep a sense of normal routine amid the noise and fluorescent lights.

Our role was not to arrive as saviours, but to listen first.

How Renaissance stepped in

Through Renaissance Fund Impact, we:

  • Spent time on the ground with families and relief coordinators to understand what they actually needed, not what looks good in a report.
  • Channelled LON & GIN funds towards practical support for displaced families and day-to-day essentials at the centre.
  • Documented the situation so we can track longer-term needs, not just respond to the first wave of emergency.

This visit is one of the early chapters of Renaissance. The goal is simple: turn brand revenue into steady, intelligent relief and opportunity within Sabah.

Where your purchase really goes

When you choose LON & GIN, you are not just buying a lipstick, dress or mist.

A portion of that transaction travels further than the delivery address:

  • It moves into halls like the one in Kg Madsiang.
  • It supports families who have to start again from almost nothing.
  • It helps us show up consistently, not just when the cameras are on.

Renaissance is our quiet promise that beauty and lifestyle should coexist with responsibility. The work is not loud, but it is deliberate.

What’s next

Renaissance will continue to:

  • Identify communities in Sabah facing displacement, disaster or structural hardship.
  • Allocate a portion of LON & GIN revenue into targeted relief and development.
  • Share field updates like this, so our community can see where the money goes and how the stories evolve.

If you know of communities in Sabah that are still affected by recent floods or in need of focused support, you can reach out to us privately. Every detail helps us assess where Renaissance should go next.
